Learning to safely and effectively work around an animal weighing 1000 pounds or more requires patience, trust, awareness, compassion, responsibility and self-confidence. At the Wardle Home, girls participate in weekly therapeutic horseback riding in and out of an arena. The girls learn about horses and practice horsemanship, with the added benefits of increasing awareness of their emotional states, improving their verbal and non-verbal communication skills, recognizing their dsyfuntional patterns of behavior and practicing new coping mechanisms.
"You have made such a difference in my life. From all the late-night talks to the laughs and all the thoughts & ideas we've shared...It's been so much fun to get to know me (and you) with you to help guide me. I love you so much. You are a wonderful & absolutely amazing woman. You have so much patience. I feel like we've become friends, even with all the gaps between us." (2005 - student note)
