Academics play an important role in adolescents' self-esteem, development of self-efficacy and future success. At the Wardle Home, girls receive ongoing support as they continue their education as outlined in their Individual Plan.
Most high school age girls attend Bonners Ferry High School (BFHS), which was built in 2004 and has an average enrollment of 500 students. There are many benefits to a smaller school environment, including better communication with teachers and counselors and increased participation in sports and activities that girls might have avoided in much larger schools. The high school provides access to dual enrollment classes and online courses through the local North Idaho College branch. Special education services are available for those who qualify.
When appropriate, girls may attend the much smaller Riverside High School, with an average enrollment of 30 students and more options for earning credits at an accelerated pace.
The girls at the Wardle Home have participated in the following extracurricular activities to date:
For those who have completed high school, North Idaho College offers college classes at nearby outreach centers in Ponderay and Bonners Ferry, as well as online courses. Additional services include advising, computer lab, tutoring, Workforce training classes and placement testing.
Some of the girls have also earned their CNA certification at the local Boundary Community Hospital.
